The NASCAR Camping World East Series begins its 2008 season this Saturday at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.   One driver who has been anxiously awaiting this weekend is Craig Goess, who will pilot the No. 2 Greenville Toyota/ESR Development Toyota Camry for Eddie Sharp Racing.
Goess, after years of competing in the Legends Cars division, has decided to make the jump to the heavier stock cars and will compete for the Rookie of the Year honors, with hopes of also picking up the Series title.

“I'm definitely anxious to get this season started,” said Goess, who turned 27 on Monday.  “We've done some testing at Greenville, Iowa and Caraway to get us prepared. The car we tested at Greenville wasn't the car I'll be racing, but it allowed me to get a feel for the car and the track. I raced at Greenville several years ago in the Legends Car, but this will be quite different. This is the first race of the season and if everyone is like me, we're all ready to go, so it could be a bit crazy. I know last year they tore up a lot of cars, so I hope everything will go well and we'll be able to stay out of trouble.”

Goess knows that one thing he won't have to worry about is the preparation of the cars by the Eddie Sharp Racing team.

“All the guys are first class and I couldn't ask for any better,” continues Goess. “From the owner, Eddie Sharp, on down, everybody is talented and takes extreme pride in the organization. They all care about what's going on and their results reflect that. I'm proud to be working with them and there's nobody I'd rather be teamed with than the ESR group.”
With the focus being on the first race of the year, Goess also has goals set for the whole season in mind too.

“I'd like to win every race,” Goess explains. “But I have to be realistic. There are a lot of good cars, drivers and teams out there and ones with lots of experience.  It's going to be tough to go up against them, but I'm up for the challenge and being competitive.  I'd like to win Rookie of the Year, win some races and have a lot of top-10 finishes.”

His first victory could come as early as this weekend when the No. 2 Greenville Toyota/ESR Development Toyota Camry takes to Greenville-Pickens Speedway on Saturday evening.
