Goess is Geared Up For Season Finale
First Trip to Stafford Awaits
Craig Goess, Jr. will wrap up his rookie season in the NASCAR Camping World East Series this weekend. The tour concludes on Sunday at the Stafford Motor Speedway for the CARQUEST Fall Final. Goess has had a string of top-15 finishes and looks to add another one this weekend when his No. 2 Greenville Toyota/Team ESR Development Toyota takes to the legendary Connecticut short track.
Goess has finished in the top-15 his last five races, with a career-best fifth place finish coming at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park. The Eddie Sharp Racing team has really made some strides in the last half of the season. With the momentum they have built up, Goess is disappointed this weekend will be the final race of the year.
“We have really made a lot of progress the last half of the year,” said Goess. “I'm a little upset to see the season ending, but it's been a good run. I haven't decided what to do for 2009, but we still have this weekend's race to run, and I'm looking forward to having another good finish.”
Stafford Motor Speedway will be another track that Goess has yet to visit during his numerous years of competition. As with the other new tracks during this year's tenure at the wheel of the No. 2 Toyota, Goess will have to rely a lot on veteran crew chief Johnny Allen and the rest of his ESR team to help him adjust quickly.
“Stafford is another new track for me,” Goess adds. “I have no clue what it's like. Hopefully, I'll have a good set-up on the No. 2 Greenville Toyota/Team ESR Development Toyota that will allow me to figure the track out pretty quickly. From there, we'll see how it goes. I'd definitely like to finish the season with another top-five finish for myself and this Eddie Sharp Racing team. They've worked really hard this year and deserve it.”
The CARQUEST Fall Final weekend begins on Saturday for the NASCAR Camping World East Series. The cars take to the track for their one and only practice session from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Time trials begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday's 150-lap main event starts at 12:00 p.m.
