Craig Goess and his Eddie Sharp Racing team headed to Rockingham Speedway this past weekend for the final race of the 2009 ARCA RE/MAX season, looking for a strong finish to solidify their spot in the top five of the final points standings. Although they ran into a few bumps in the road, Goess and his team collected a 17th-place finish and ultimately did just what they needed to clench their position.
“We brought a car that we’d never run before,” explained Goess. “It just didn’t work. It was a short track car that we took a gamble on and it was a handful for most of the race, but we held on to it and worked through some of our problems with it and still got a pretty good finish in the points.”
In just his rookie season in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, Goess posted 12 top-10 finishes in 21 starts, which earned him fifth in the final points standings. However, the Woodbury, New Jersey, native has the true racer’s mentality and isn’t satisfied with merely a top five.
“I’m a little disappointed,” said Goess. “Obviously the positive thing is that we came out of it with fifth in points for the year and that’s not terrible, but hopefully we can best our finish next time around.”
