Craig Goess was satisfied with a seventh-place finish at the ARCA RE/MAX Drive Smart Buckle-Up Kentucky 150 at the Kentucky Motor Speedway over the weekend. He was satisfied, but completely happy with it.  After a crazy day of dodging wrecks and recovering from an extra pit stop, Goess found his way back to the front to turn a positive into a negative with his second top-10 run of the 2009 season.

Goess started 10th in the race and was running in the top 10 at the time of the first pit stop.  After a lightning-fast stop on pit road, Goess found himself in the fourth spot on the next restart, but dropped back before making another pit stop during the next yellow-flag period.

“We made some adjustments on the first pit stop and the car didn’t like the changes that we made,” said Goess.  “It just got too loose for us to drive, so we came back in to tighten the car up.  I spent the rest of the race dodging wrecks and spins. We picked up a bunch of spots after a big wreck on the frontstretch.  In the end we got back to where we were.

“We’re off just a little bit with our car.  It doesn’t need that much work to get a top three and that’s what we are working on.  Kentucky might have ended up bad for us, but we didn’t have any bumps or bruises on the car, so we are just going to concentrate on making it faster when we go back.  I don’t feel like we stole any positions.  I think we ended up with what the car was capable off.”

With the finish, Goess remains in the top 10 in points as he currently sits sixth after four races. He also gained ground in the race for ARCA RE/MAX Rookie of the Year as current top rookie Parker Kligerman had problems and finished 18th.

Goess will return to action in the ARCA RE/MAX Series on Sunday, May 17th at Toledo Speedway (OH) for the Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care.  Goess tested at the track prior to the race in Kentucky.

“It’s always good to get familiar with a track before you go there,” added Goess.  “We only really got in a half-day test before the rains came.  I feel I am ready for the next race.  I am also really looking forward to the stretch after that as we go to Pocono and Michigan in June.”
