Craig Goess continued to make a name for himself in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this past Friday, June 12th, in the Racing for Wildlife 200 held at Michigan International Speedway (MI).  Goess finished the event with a solid 10th-place finish for Eddie Sharp Racing, despite Mother Nature’s recurring interference with qualifying and practice.

“Once again, for the fourth time in a row, qualifying got rained out and we had a shortened practice because of the weather,” said Goess.  “Going into the race, the car was real tight and we kept loosening it up every time we could.  It helped a little bit, but as we loosened it up, the track got tighter, so it didn’t really get us very far.”

Goess worked his way through the handling issues of his car and was looking for a top-seven finish, but an issue on the track forced him back a few spots.

“We were going to end up finishing seventh, but then we had to lift on the backstretch because another competitor pinched us up high.  It screwed up our momentum going through three and four, so two or three cars got by us coming through four.”

With the finish at Michigan behind him, Goess is looking forward to securing a win in his first season with the ARCA RE/MAX Series.  He may be fifth in the point standings, but Goess won’t be 100-percent satisfied until he makes an appearance in victory lane.

“I want to win a race.” said Goess.  “That’s what I want to do.  Wherever the points fall, they fall.”

As far as his next race at Mansfield Motorsports Park (OH) is concerned, Goess has run there before in a Camping World Series East car, where he earned his first top five in the series.  Goess hopes to repeat those same results in an ARCA RE/MAX car.

“I’ve got my fingers crossed.  We have a new short track car that just got built, so we’re testing that in the next couple days.   I have no clue what were going to have with this new car, but we’re hoping to take it to Mansfield and get a solid finish out of it.  It’s hard to speculate what I’ll be able to get out of it [performance wise], but we’re hoping for the best.”

On June 20th, the Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA RE/MAX 200 will be at Mansfield Motorsports Park (OH).
