Going into the ARCA RE/MAX Tim Richmond Memorial ARCA 200 at Mansfield Motorsports Park (OH), Craig Goess and the #81 Toyota of Greenville Camry team were optimistic due to the use of a different car just for the event. He qualified eleventh and only reached more adversity as the event rolled on, but still managed a top-10 finish.
“We took a new short track car out there and practiced earlier in the week and it felt good,” said Goess. “The car was good in practice (on race day), but we had some handling issues in qualifying. The car was loose on short runs, but we felt it would be solid in long runs.
“Once we got going we had a third-place car, but we got into some issues and I had to come back from the rear twice. Late in the race, a teammate gave us less than ample room and we ended up spinning out as a result. We had only a three laps to make up the positions that we lost, so we were only able to get up to 10th. All in all, it was a good run for us despite the finish.”
Another top ten for Goess solidified his fifth-place location in the ARCA RE/MAX points standings, although he would have preferred the victory instead.
“We were hoping to make it to Victory Lane, but this just wasn’t the weekend for that. Maybe we can pull it off at Iowa in a couple weeks.”
The next race for Craig Goess and the ARCA RE/MAX series will be on July 11th at Iowa Speedway.
