For Craig Goess Jr., the 2009 season has been filled with a lot of excitement and a lot of success in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.  Goess recorded another first this past weekend at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (IL) as he took part in the first of the two annual dirt races for the ARCA stars.  Although he finished 26th, that didn’t show the true measure of how much fun his first experience with dirt was.

“It was really interesting,” said Goess.  “I didn’t have anything to base it off of.  I have never run dirt before this past weekend.  I would be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to getting back on the pavement at Chicago.  We still had fun; you can’t do any more then that when you’re not accustomed to something.”

Goess had an off lap in qualifying as his 18th-place starting position was his worst of the 2009 season.  Nevertheless, Goess began working his way to the front before trouble found him near the halfway point.

“We could have had a top-10, top-15 finish if we didn’t get caught up in someone else’s mess,” added Goess.  “After the race I really got to talk to my crew chief (Patrick Donahue) about running laps on dirt and what we could have done for a setup.  We know that we are going to be better when we go to DuQuoin.”

Goess looks forward to the chance at redemption as the ARCA cars will be back on the dirt on September 7th at DuQuoin State Fairgrounds (IL).

Craig Goess Jr will be back in action this coming weekend with the ARCA RE/MAX series at the Chicagoland Motor Speedway (IL) on Saturday, August 29th.
